The Long and the Short of it:
I have not grown any taller since I was in the 7th grade at the historic
Fremont Junior High in Fremont, Ohio (birthplace of Rutherford B. Hayes).
I met my husband in the A Cappella Choir of Sandusky High School (yes, the
Sandusky of Cedar Point fame). Our first date was to a movie entitled 'Jaws'
(the first one!). We attended our senior prom together.
After we both were graduated from Miami of Ohio, we moved to four different
states as he pursued first an active duty Naval career and then a career
with Texas Instruments. During that time, I taught junior high English,
high school English, and high school Yearbook I & II and had three
children .
Fourteen years ago, we moved back to Ohio and settled in Medina, where I
taught language arts (primarily Advanced Composition) for ten years at Medina
Senior High School. This is my third year at CVCA , and I am excited about
the possibilities and pray we will all work together to further the kingdom.
I became a Christian at a young age and was the daughter of a minister and
home missionary (now called a church planter), Paul Nevels. I have been
involved in many ministries in the local church, including music, decorating,
and teaching.
Although I am not quite sure how I happened to get this old, my recently
married daughter lives in Richmond, Kentucky, and is the program coordinator
for the Insurance and Risk Division of the Business Department at Eastern
Kentucky University. Having earned a master's degree in sports administration
last year, she is beginning her doctorate studies this fall in educational
leadership.
My oldest son was graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a
business degree. He received a second degree in international business from
Avans University in Holland where he studied as a foreign exchange student for
a year. His passion is soccer, but this winter he is planning to work in Vail,
Colorado, as a airport van driver, so he is enjoying another hobby of
his--snowboarding.
My youngest child is a junior at Miami University. An avid musician, he
plays the drums for the Bridge Church and has sung with the Chamber Ensemble
Singers and Men's Glee Club. All of Miami's choral organizations will be
singing at Carnegie Hall this fall, and we look forward to a trip to the Big
Apple to hear them!
We have two cats. Riley is pictured below showing his support for the
Indians. Felix is a Maine Coon who follows me from room to room. He has been
known to scratch my face if I did not wake up early enough for him!
