Mrs. Kathleen Clifton has been teaching at Cardinal Pacelli School for 18
years. She teaches 6th grade Language Arts and 7th grade English. She
taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science, and 5th and 6th Religion when she
first came to Pacelli. She graduated from Edgecliff College and received a
Master’s degree in Education from Xavier University in 2000, and she was in
the same graduating class as her daughter. She continued at Xavier to get
enough hours to earn her Principal’s Certificate. Over the years, Mrs.
Clifton has received a number of grants for programs to use in her
classroom. This year she really enjoyed working on the self-study for the
school as part of the steering committee for the state accreditation for
Pacelli.
One of her favorite things to do is read. She loves sharing new and
favorite books by reading to her classes. When I was in Mrs. Clifton’s
class, I always enjoyed the books she read aloud to us. All the time she
tells her students, “If you read, you are smart,” and “Smart people read.”
Her special talent is challenging her students to be the very best they can
be.
A new program for the 6th graders is the “Christmas Kindness” program.
Thanks to a generous donation from a parish member, students found ways to
help people who weren’t as fortunate as they. Mrs. Clifton has fun projects
like the L.A.P.S. (Literature Appreciation Projects).
Before Mrs. Clifton came to Cardinal Pacelli, she taught at St. Mary in Hyde
Park for 14 years and before that at St. Bernadette in Amelia. She
considers herself lucky because she has had the experience of teaching every
grade level.
Mrs. Clifton and her husband Tom have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. She
loves having the whole group to their home for birthday celebrations and
holidays.
