Dear future 5th graders and families,
I am so excited that we will be in 5th grade together next year. For those of you who only know me
as a Kindergarten teacher, I thought I would share a little of my background and why I am so excited
about teaching 5th grade.
Before I became a teacher, I was a Medical Technologist and worked in labs doing specialized testing,
teaching and sometimes research work. My first degree was in Biology and Chemistry. As my three
sons grew and began their education, I became involved in teaching in our church, as well as in
hands-on science camps. It was at this time in my life that I felt God calling me into teaching. I
returned to school to become certified to teach High School Sciences, with my goal being to teach
Middle School Science. Once I began my training, I decided to add an Elementary Education degree
and certification to my credentials, thinking it would help me teach the middle school student. At
that time I was still involved with teaching for many different science camps, as well as helping them
write curriculum and pilot those camps. I spent that first spring semester substituting in many
schools and at many grade levels.
My first teaching position began the next fall, teaching 4th grade at our North campus for three
years. I loved teaching that age group and have looked forward to moving up in grades when the
Lord’s timing was right. That is not to say that I have not enjoyed teaching Kindergarten. Since I
began teaching Kindergarten at the South Campus many years ago, I have found it challenging and
rewarding - and I have loved working with Mrs. Puckett and the many families and students that I
have meet. When I heard that there would be a 5th grade opening, I have felt the Lord’s nudging
saying now was the time. I am so excited that Pastor Wilson and Mrs. Paredes agreed!
In the time since I may have had your child as a Kindergartner, I have completed my Masters Degree
in Curriculum and Instruction and added a Gifted Education (K-12) to my teaching license of
Elementary (K-8), Secondary (7-12) Education and Reading (K-12).
I love teaching at CHCS and look forward to meeting and getting to know some of you, while I get to
renew serving again with the others. I have many ideas already of exciting learning and serving
opportunities for our class. For example, Mrs. Smucker and I have already been talking about ways to
expand the Reading Buddies’ relationships and experiences. I pray that our 5th grade year together
will be a time of great growth as we journey together in our Christian walk. Please feel free to contact
me with any questions.

My prayer for my students and their families, is that they will always be
able to know that I love their child, as I help them to grow, mature and
stretch, academically, emotionally and spiritually. I also pray that
learning will always be fun and exciting for them, as I try to meet the
needs and the various learning styles of all the students in the class.
