How do I talk to you about my child?

You can reach me at the North Campus on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday by
calling the Mod at (330) 928-6089. You can also e-mail me by clicking on the
E-mail link at the top of this page or the mailbox in the upper right-hand
corner of my home page for this website. I am always happy to talk to parents
and share how their child is doing or ways that you can help them at home,
too.

Why is my child coming to Math Mod?

Your child is coming to Math Mod for one of two reasons. First, I work
with students who need help and extra practice in math. They may be
struggling with math in the classroom and/or their math achievement test
scores may be low. I also work with students for math enrichment. These
students are doing very well in math and need an extra challenge in math.
One time is scheduled for a math tutoring group and a separate time for each
math enrichment group in a class.

How are students selected for the Math Olympics By Mail?

Pre-tests are given in the 3-6 grade classrooms to help determine which
students would do best in the Math Olympics. Classroom performance in math is
also considered. Classroom teachers and I make the final selections.

What is the Computer Literacy unit taught in the 4th grades?

I go into each 4th grade classroom (both North and South) for one-half hour
each week. Together we work through a booklet that I have compiled which
covers history of computers, parts & care of computers, different types of
computers & peripheral devices, applications for computers, and the internet.
After completing this booklet, the students are given a computer literacy test
which does count as a math grade for them. Then, I will be working with the
students on different software applications on the computers.

What is Math Enrichment?

I also work with groups of students who are performing very well in math in
the classroom. The teachers refer students to me in this area. I meet with
them once a week for 20-25 minutes and challenge them in the area of math with
"enrichment type" activities. We also talk about computers and work on
increasing speed and accuracy on math facts. Some of the 3-6 grade students
may also participate in the Math Olympics in March so I help them with some
items for that, too.
