2009-2010 ACSI MATH OLYMPICS

This year the Math Olympics By Mail took place on NOVEMBER 17, 2009.

These were the students who were selected and participated this year:

3rd Grade
Computation:  Nick Ferda, Tommy Lile, Nathan Mullins, and Ariana DeIulis (Alternate)
Reasoning:  Jacob Brighton, Nathan Kreider, Christian Via, and Noah Earlenbaugh (Alt.)

4th Grade
Computation:  Andrew Duff, Desia Hamm, Brynna Limer, and Lance Rybka (Alternate)
Reasoning:  Jonathan Abbuhl, Jake French, Wes Gray, and Jason Lyon (Alternate)

5th Grade
Computation:  Chris Berry, Ryan Foguth, Andrew Malak, and Natalie Cochran (Alternate)
Reasoning:  Lydia Bierce, Lauren McDaniel, Isaiah Norman, and Brooks Montgomery (Alt.)

6th Grade
Computation:  Daniel Chung, Emily Hartel, Zech Ramos, and Emily Petrinec (Alternate)
Reasoning:  David Abbuhl, Nicholas Armstrong, Matt Zanin, and Kristen Huseman (Alt.)

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Math Olympics is an ACSI sponsored event in which we participate 
each school year.  Six students from grades 3-6 are selected based
upon pre-tests given in the classrooms and their performance in 
math.  From each grade, three students are in Math Computations and 
three students are in Math Reasoning.

On the day of the Math Olympics By Mail, the participants take a series of 
tests here at the school.  I administer the tests.  Then, the tests are sent 
to a regional scoring location where they are graded and compared with 
8-12 other Christian schools in the area.  The results are returned to the 
school.  At the end of the year award chapel, each of the participants 
receive a certificate for taking part in the Math Olympics and ribbons are
awarded to the top 5 students in each category.

As a bonus for the Math Olympic students, they are allowed to come 
"out-of-uniform" the day of the testing.  We all go for lunch to the Food 
Court at Chapel Hill Mall that day, too.

ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-6 TAKE PRE-TESTS

Pre-tests to determine Math Olympic students this year will take place in 
the classrooms of students in grades 3-6 in late September or early 
October.  The teachers will turn in the names of the Math Olypmic 
participants to me.  I will send permission forms home with those 
students selected the beginning of October.

year.
