Hi Everybody!
With colder weather arriving, I need to tell you that the children will be going outside unless it is
decided that the temperature or the chill factor is too low, or it is too wet. The first REAL accumulated
snow we have will be a time for celebration! Please send boots and snow pants (or an extra pair of warm
pants to act as snow pants) as well as the normal winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves or mittens.
We'll have an extended recess and build a snowman and make snow angels right outside our classroom
window. Come and play in the snow with us!
Catholic Schools Week is the last week in January. The second graders are planning the Mass during
that week on Wednesday, January 27. We will have Mass at St. Mary Church. I hope you'll be able to
attend. More on this later.
Field trips this year for second graders are a challenge. The new seatbelt laws requires that any child
less than eight years old AND less than 4'9" tall be secured in a child restraint system......a booster seat
that meets or exceeds current standards. I have 9 children in my classroom who must use restraints
under the new law. According to those children, most do NOT have restraints. As the year progresses,
many of the children will turn eight and will not be subject to that law. My hope is that if we forego our
field trips until the spring, those of you who have children still affected by the law will be able to
borrow enough booster seats to cover us! I know its an inconvenience, but it's necessary.
F.Y.I. Many of the second grade children designed Christmas scenes that are being displayed in the
napkin holders at Bud's Restaurant. Bud's Restaurant is a great supporter of Catholic Education in
Defiance.
