Room 2 Newsletter

The (final) Harris Herald

May 31, 2013

Dear Room 2 families,

I cannot thank you enough for one of the most enjoyable and memorable school years I have had in my years as a teacher.  You are raising wonderful children who I know will grow up to genuinely kind and respectful adults.  I will remember each of the kids in my class this year for different and very specific reasons.  The last day of school is always a tough one.   But this year will be especially difficult for me. What I wouldn’t give to have this class again!

Again, thank you so very much.

Your child’s first grade teacher,

Mrs. Harris

Look what we’re doing in Room 2:

Writing: We all finally finished publishing our small moment writing!  Look for this to come home with the checklist your child was responsible for, as well as the rubric I used to grade their work!

This week during “Word Work” we did a word search that had all of our friends’ names in it!  It was fun!

Reading:  Our reader’s theater performance of The Great Kapok Tree was fabulous!!

Math: We finished up our assessment and they came home graded for you to see.

Science:  We finished up our Google presentations of our rainforest animal research.  We also presented them to one another today (Friday).  The students did a great job!  Feel free to log into your child’s Google account (username: lastnamefirstname@smfschools.org password: student ID# preceeded by two zeros) to see their final presentation along with comments that I have made to each of them regarding their work.  I THINK YOU WILL BE VERY IMPRESSED!

Gifts from Mrs. Harris

Next week, I’ll be sending home a DVD photo slideshow for each of the kids to KEEP.  DISCLAIMER: It is not intended to bring mothers to tears.  However, I’ve been told it has happened in the past.  ENJOY!

I will also be giving each student a stamped envelope with my address on it.  This envelope is for the students to write to me over the summer about books that they are reading and activities they are doing.  If your child writes to me, I will write them a letter back!

Also, your child will be bringing home their first grade memory books that we have been working on all year.  I hope you enjoy these!
