AES  CURRENT EVENTS ASSIGNMENT

Purpose:  To make yourself familiar with the current events happening in earth science today.

 

Assignment: 

  1. Collect 10 published ARTICLES pertaining to an event that has occurred in the fields of earth science.  These must be CURRENT events (dated no earlier than July 2007)!
    1. Cut them out of a newspaper or magazine.  Paste them on notebook or computer paper.
    2. Copy them from a newspaper of magazine.
    3. Download and print them from a REPUTABLE website (Science Daily, NY Times, Scientific American, USA Today, etc).
  2. Number your articles 1-10.
  3. Create a BIBLIOGRAPHY of these sources that correspond to the numbers you just used.  If this is not done as you have learned to do it, you will receive NO points for that article(s).  Must include name of publication, author’s name, date of publication!
  4. Determine WHICH BRANCH of earth science they pertain to (geology, astronomy, meteorology, or oceanography).  Bonus points will be given if you correctly identify the SUBSPECIALTY of that branch.
  5. Summarize (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) what the article says including WHO, WHEN, WHAT, HOW, and WHY.  Make sure that your WHY includes why this is important to you and me.
  6. Have all 10 organized together and ready to turn in on the due date.  You may put them in a folder, a folder with prongs, a report cover, a binder, or create a booklet by stapling all of them NEATLY together.

                                                         iv.      Articles 3-10 with summary
