Fourth Grade Music Students.
Fourth graders are beginning a unit on Musical Instruments. After Spring
Break, your child will be given information about the 5th grade band program
at Edison Elementary. Fourth graders will also be given the opportunity to be
"fitted" on an instrument. Much like trying on a pair of shoes, students will
try to make a sound on an instrument mouthpiece and instrument. This process
takes about ten minutes and helps pair beginning band students with the most
appropriate musical instrument for them. This is not required. Fittings will
take place during music class and at the child's recess time.
Fifth grade band is not a mandatory class, and all
students will have vocal music class on a regular basis. Students who wish to
participate in the band may elect to receive free instrumental music lessons
at school. These occur during the school day, and this year they were
scheduled after lunch.
