Hello, I'm Mr. Gilbert. I have been teaching physical education for 18 years. This is my 12th year at
Stevenson Elementary. My first six years of teaching were spent at Trinity School in the Columbus
Diocese. I grew up in Columbus and attended The Ohio State University where I earned both my
undergradute and graduate degrees. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher, having earned this
distinction through professional development course work in 2002. I enjoy playing with my son,
golfing, attending Ohio State football games and vacationing with my family in my spare time. My
favorite teams are: The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns, Boston Celtics, and
Columbus Blue Jackets.
Physical education at Stevenson Elementary is about movement, fitness, and skill development. It
is my hope that all Stevenson students can take the skills they learn in physical education class out
to the community to participate in age appropriate sport and leisure activities. For example,
throwing, catching and batting skills that we work on in the spring carry right over to the local t-
ball, softball, and little league here in Grandview. I encourage all the Stevenson kids to sign up and
get involved in team and individual sports in the community!
Second and third grade students work on their fitness throughout the year in physical education
class. I test these students 2 times a year and send home a fitness profile with my Fitnessgram
software. Keeping our kids fit and healthy is a big part of my physical education philosophy.
