Why should I join PTA? Membership is the heart of PTA! A strong membership is essential
in implementing successful programs and events for children and families and
for providing additional resources. Members who are willing to get involved
are a valuable resource. Joining the PTA, however, does not obligate you in
any way. You are welcome to participate as much, or as little as you wish.
The best reason for joining the PTA is that it gives you a voice! Most of
the decisions that affect the education and welfare of our children are not
made at the local school level; they are made by members of the School
Board,the State Legislature,or Congress. In order to have a voice in the
decision making process, to be heard by the people who ultimately determine
policy or pass legislation affecting children and youth, everyone should
belong to PTA. No other education group can give its members so much
representation.
Do I need to attend the meetings? No, it is not required to attend meetings, but this is the best way to keep
informed of all that PTA is doing for the children and staff at Ledgeview
and to have a part in the decision making process.
Do I need to volunteer? No, but it is encouraged! Everything that Ledgeview PTA does is through the
the voluntary participation of it's members. Without volunteers PTA would
fail to exist. There are many ways in which you can volunteer to help; in
the school, from home, and around the community.
What are the benefits of joining PTA? The biggest benefit of joining PTA is the satisfaction of knowing you are
doing your part to make a difference in the life of a child. There are also
many other benefits of joining PTA.
Anyone who is a member of Ledgeview PTA also becomes a member of the
National PTA and of the Ohio PTA and is entitled to all the benefits
of such membership. National PTA offers many benefits to it's members
including the examples listed below. These and other benefits can be found

2. Kidz-Idz
The Kidz-IDz School ID Card Program enables all students attending PTA-
affiliated schools to get a hard plastic School ID Card for free! School
ID Cards play a key role in maintaining student safety, as they can make the
difference in a missing or injured student being quickly identified and
provided with the appropriate assistance. Each fully customized ID Card is
imprinted with:
your school name, address, & phone number
student's color photo
student's first initial & last name, date of birth, height, weight, eye
color, hair color, & gender
student's medical conditions and allergy information
emergency contact name with three phone numbers
optional medical release section

4. MedicAlert
MedicAlert Foundation has partnered with PTA to provide peace of mind to
parents through discounted memberships to the MedicAlert Kid Smart program.
The program provides 24 hour child emergency ID and family emergency
notification services that safeguard and identify children in an emergency.
With a single phone call, emergency responders can talk with a
representative to access medical history and records.
Each child enrolled in the program is provided with a personalized medical

Is it too late to become a member? No, it is never too late to become of member of Ledgeview PTA! Membership

I work, what can I do to help? There are many ways that you can help! Many of the programs and events that
PTA offers are scheduled before or after school, in the evenings, and on
weekends to accommodate working families. These programs/events are all run
by PTA volunteers and help is always needed. In addition, there are many
things that you can do right from home including covering books for a
teacher, saving box tops and campbells soup labels, recycling paper, or
making market day reminder calls.
What is the "Three for Me" program? THREE FOR ME is a national PTA program that promotes family and community
involvement in our childrens educational experience. THREE FOR ME is a
promise that you make to a child and to his or her school. A promise to be
actively involved in his/her education by volunteering three hours of your
time at home or at school. Whether it is helping in the classroom, making
copies for a teacher, spending time at home letting your child read to you,
or helping at a PTA sponsored event, it is all important involvement that
helps a child!

foldes at the start of the year and can also be downloaded from the FORMS
