November’s/December’s Sixth Grade Independent Reading Project
Genre: Historical Fiction is a fictional story with real and invented characters that takes place during a specific historical time period.
Due Date: Tuesday, December 15, 2009
Project: Literacy Scrapbook
Directions: After reading your selected novel, design a scrapbook of the book. Brainstorm objects found in scrapbooks: movie stubs, awards and certificates, newspaper articles, pictures, souvenirs, pressed flowers, invitations, hair, postcards, letters, menus, greeting cards, and receipts. Draw, take photos, cut pictures out of magazines, print pictures from the computer, and put in other mementos symbolizing each of the elements listed below. You must use at least five different types of objects in your scrapbook to receive full points for creativity. Include a caption for each picture or memento that consists of three sentences. The caption should include the name of the item, the story element it represents, and why you chose it. The cover of your scrapbook must include the book title, author, your name, and an appropriate illustration. Your entire scrapbook should be at least seven pages.
You need to include the following elements in your scrapbook:
* Main Characters
* Setting
Plot:
* Problem, * Main Events, & * Solution
* Five examples of figurative language used in your book (Include the sentence from your book that uses the figurative language, the page number, and what type of figurative language it is.)
* A one paragraph summary of the book (6-10 sentences)
