"Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought
forth upon this continent a new nation, conceived in
liberty and dedicated to the proposition that
all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing
whether that nation or any nation so conceived and
so dedicated can long endure. We are met on a
great battlefield of that war."
- Abraham Lincoln, 16th President
Take a Moment:
What are your first thoughts when you hear the words
"Civil War?" Your first instinct is to think of terms such as "North v.
South," "Slavery" or even "Abraham Lincoln." However, the Civil War is
much more. It dealt with states rights, conflicts,
industrialization, and much more. The following webquest has been
designed for you, the student, to begin to form a hands on
understanding of the Civil War Period. Throughout this assignment you
will be challenged to find more information on the Civil War Era and
conflicts leading up to the war. We will examine both the Northern and
Southern states' points of view. This site is designed to be a step by
step, guide on the side for this assignment. Take things slowly and at
your learning pace. If you have any questions, feel free to talk to me at
any time. - Mrs. Riepenhoff
