Process

You are to work on this project by yourself, unless otherwise instructed
by your teacher. Feel free to ask me questions at any time and if you find
a source you find to be highly useful, feel free to post it on the
information board in our classroom or ask to present it to the class. As
you complete each step, please place your finished work into the
hand-in folder on my desk. Please make sure to proof read and fully
research your work, don’t leave any requirements out or points will be
deducted as outlined on the evaluation sheets. Work does not have to
be completed in role order. Make sure you do your best, when all roles
are complete, we will be making a Civil War book to be placed in the
school library or in our study section for the rest of our time while
studying the Civil War.

Step 1:

Go to the “Role 1” section of our webquest. Here, you will find a list of people who played important roles in the Civil War. Your task is to pick an individual from each side of the Civil War. (The Northern- Union states and the Southern-Confederate states.) After choosing, you are to write a short biography on each, following the criteria listed in this section. Please hand-write your details and then come visit me for a pass to use word processing on the computers. When finished, print and hand in.

Step 2:

Under “Role 2" you will find a list of major battles which were fought during the Civil War. For this section of our Civil War webquest, you are to take the list of battle sites and write a few short sentences on each. Criteria is, again, listed in this section. You will be asked to mark their locations on the map that is included under Role 3. I would like this section to be done neatly and in an organized fashion. Double check your work and place in the hand in folder when completed.

Step 3:

In “Role 3," you are asked to take the major battle sites and place them on the map. This map will be used throughout our Social Studies class, so make sure it is kept neat. You can get a blank map under Role 3 with more specific details and creative ideas.

Step 4:

In “Role 4," you are asked to look at the circumstances that led up to the Civil War. There is a list of causes, but your task is to find information backing these claims. More criteria is listed in this guide. This role will be the most complicated and longest part of the webquest assignment.

Step 5:

Each student will compile their work into a book. This book should be done in an organized fashion, but you, the students, are the decision makers on the design and format. Ideas and sources are found throughout the site and in the “Role 5" section. I would like you to include a paragraph or two as a final thought on this assignment. Please include what you liked and disliked about this activity. I would also like to know where you stand on the Civil War. Please make sure all your work is complete and hand-in. The final work will be displayed throughout the school, so make sure your work is done well.
