November 5, 2009 Dear Parents, I have met with some of you for conferences already and if I haven’t, I will soon. You have or will soon receive your child’s grade card. After reviewing it, please sign it and return it to school. The skill for next week is a difficult one. We have been practicing here at school and I know you are helping at home. There are a lot of children who are anxious and frustrated with trying to learn to tie their shoes. If they do not master this skill by next week we will just keep trying. I know some children are getting upset with not knowing how to do it, but this skill will come in time. If your daughter will be attending Daisy Scouts please send a note to school each time there is a meeting saying that your child needs to go there after school. This will help the teachers to know where everyone is supposed to be going. In our Math series we are starting to work with money. The children are doing very well with this. We have a money song we sing everyday and a money graph where we count the days of school also. This has made the transition into learning money in math much easier. They get so excited when they realize they are doing addition and subtraction problems. Our reading program has the children working with repetitive books to learn to read. I am impressed with the progress the children are making with this. They want to read everything they see. Hopefully they are also doing this at home so you see how much they are learning. Also, in our classroom we are doing a lot of handwriting. The children are all improving so much just in the short eleven weeks I have been with them. It is interesting to watch the transformation in them and see how proud they are of their work. I will be going on maternity leave soon. Some of you have had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Lowe, who will be taking over for me while I am gone. She is looking forward to being in the classroom and has had the chance to be here with the children a couple times already. The children all know her and the transition should be easy for them. If you have any questions while I am off please e-mail me, or Mrs. Lowe will give you her contact information when she starts here. Thank you, Mrs. Missler
