Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader will start the second week in November. I will send home
a form when we are ready to begin taking tests. We will have 4th grade students help the children
find the tests on the computer in the Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 8:30 to
8:50. If you wish your child to take a test then he/she must be here early enough to take the test. It
is the only time that I can guarantee that there will be a helper.

Accelerated Reader in first grade is not mandatory; however, I encourage the
children to try to earn 10 points before the end of first grade. Many
children exceed this goal. Most of the books which are for first graders are
worth 0.5 points so it takes at least 20 books, passing the tests with 100%
each time to reach a goal of 10 points.

AR books can be obtained from the public library, school library, or your
own home. You can access a list of books for which we have tests online on the elementary home
site.
