Bernhardt’s December 7-11, 2009 Bulletin LANGUAGE ARTS NEWS: READING: TUESDAY'S READING: The little paperback will be in your child's folder. Return it on Wednesday. SOUNDS FOR THE WEEK: Long u spelled u_e and inflectional ending -ed. BASAL READING: . You will read the story on Wednesday and work on fluency on Thursday with rereading the same story. Your child should be able to read the story without stopping to sound out words. It should be read smoothly and with expression. ENGLISH We continue to learn about proper nouns such as, days of the week, months, and holidays begin with capital letters. SPELLING: We will have a spelling test on Friday, Dec. 11. You may want to have your child try writing the words for you to check if he/she can spell the words and write them correctly. LIBRARY: Remember Wednesday is our library day. RELIGION: We will continue to talk about Advent and also some about Christmas. There will be a Family Time due on Friday. Also, I will be having the children say the Hail Mary as a quiz on Friday, Dec. 18th. You might add it to their night prayers so they say it every day. MATH: We will identify odd and even numbers. The children will also learn to number a clockface. On Wednesday and Thursday we will begin learning the adding two facts. The strategy we will use is that when add 2 to an even number the answer is the next even number and when adding 2 to an odd number the answer is the next odd number. It is important that your child be able to count by 2's using the even numbers and the odd numbers.
