Kindergarten Enrichment Program
The afternoon enrichment class is staffed by two teachers who job share.
Mrs. Barney, one of the a.m. kindergarten teachers, teaches on Monday,
Tuesday, and Friday while Mrs. Reid teaches on Wednesday and Thursday.
The children eat lunch in the cafeteria and then go outside with the primary
children to play on the playground. The children return to the classroom
and have rest/story time then are involved in a planned activity and later
have opportunity for free play until dismissal. Your child is with a kindergarten aide or
enrichment teacher at all times.
The focus of the program is to enrich the regular Kindergarten program in
the areas of Science, Social Studies, and Math as well as provide added
social interaction times. Themes are changed monthly, and each teacher
develops her own theme.
Your child can enroll at any time during the school year. A minimum of two
routine days per week is required ie. every Tuesday and Thursday. The fee is $10 per day which
is tax deductible as it is considered to be childcare. When you receive a calendar, you will
need to write in the days that your child will be attending and return with payment by the
first school day of the month. Please send all correspondence and payment in an
envelope marked “Enrichment” and to the attention of “Mrs. Barney.” Please
make out all checks out to Our Lady of Lourdes School.
Credit is only given if your child is absent from morning kindergarten or school is called
off for some reason. You will receive a credit for the next month. The
credit will be indicated on the next calendar.
Dismissal is either from Mrs. Barney’s Door or Mrs. Reid dismisses
from the cafeteria door. If your child will be taking a bus home please
arrange to have an older child, from grades 4-8, who rides their bus pick
your child up from the classroom. Any child who goes to after school care
will be escorted by a dependable forth grader.
Your child will need to bring in a pillow no larger than 12”x12” and a lunch
box.
There are no hot lunches at OLL. Children must pack their own lunch. OnFridays such foods as LaRosa's pizza and Skyline chili are brought in for purchase. This is optional. Orders are placed by Wednesdays. Milk and orange drink are always available as well as some snack items. Drinks are 30 cents. We do not encourage the purchase of snacks because we have found that the children often do not eat their lunch. However, snacks are available. We askthat you only send enough for one snack on any particular day. Item and cost list will be made available to you during the first week of school. Many parents tend to over pack their child's lunch. We will send home any uneaten lunch so that you have an idea of how much to pack.
It is hoped that this information helps you understand the enrichment program.
