HomeworkPlease refer to your child's planner for daily and long term assignments including dates for tests and quizzes. All tests/quizzes [except weekly spelling tests], regardless of score, are required to be signed in all grade 6 classes.
All students must have a library book with them at all times. Please encourage your child to spend some time reading each night.
It is very important that parents carefully monitor their child's daily use of the Student Planner. All students are required to copy each assignment from the board at the end of every class. No subject box should be left blank. If there is no homework, the students are instructed to write "NONE" in the appropriate subject box. All written work, tests/quizzes/assignments, must be completed in CURSIVE handwriting. It would be extremely helpful if the written assignments were monitored for neatness and completion.
It is STRONGLY recommended that all vocabulary book written work and spelling written work be completed over the weekend. This routine enables your child to concentrate on the written components over the weekend and focus on study/review during the week.
Weekly Spelling Units: Book page assignments, completed on looseleaf, are due on Wednesday. Tests will be administered on Friday. Tests will be multiple choice book tests and/or dictation of words or sentences.
Weekly Vocabulary Units: Practice sentences are due on Monday, book pages on Tuesday, and tests are on Thursday. Written work in the vocabulary book itself must be completed in PENCIL. When the book assignment is checked in class on Tuesday, incorrect answers are erased and the correct answers are inserted. Please look over your child's "Practice Sentences" for accuracy regarding the usage of the word. Additional information for completing vocabulary work along with test-taking hints are in the Study Guide Hand-out in your child's pocket folder.
Religion: Homework may include worksheets along with daily review of notes. All tests/quizzes will be from the NOTES in the religion notebook, worksheets, and maps. Short quizzes are usually given every Friday. Social Studies: Homework may include worksheets and daily review of notes. Mini tests are given at the beginning of each class and a grade is given for these "minis" on a weekly basis. Tests/quizzes will be from the notes, worksheets, and maps. The children are strongly encouraged to make flashcards for the highlighted information in the notes after it is covered in class. Test dates are announced at least a week in advance. Reading: Homework may include written assignments and rereading/reviewing the story in the reader. Tests are given the day after the story has been discussed in class and will include the reading vocabulary definitions in the student notebook.
