Reading 6Our book report project for the second quarter will consist of a collage and oral presentation on a particular book. Information regarding the specifics for this project came home on Friday, November 6. The collage is due on Friday, December 11.
Please remind your child to refer to the Study Guide when preparing for Thursday vocabulary tests. This guide contains tips and helpful hints for vocabulary test preparation. The weekly tests include the spelling, meaning, synonyms, and antonyms of the assigned words. An original sentence for each of the ten vocabulary words, including the part of speech, is now also part of the weekly test.
Encourage your child to bring home the vocabulary book every night. It is strongly recommended that all written work be completed over the weekend. Practice sentences are now optional, but the children may continue to turn in some or all ten practice sentences every Monday morning as in the past. The practice sentences will be returned to them on Tuesday.
Since composing an original sentence for a vocabulary word is challenging for some students, it would be most helpful if a parent looked over these "practice sentences" and assisted the child by making corrections and suggestions before the sentences are turned in on Monday morning.
Please help your child schedule some time each day for independent reading. The children have the opportunity to visit the library twice a week with their homeroom and language arts classes.
Second Quarter Accelerated Reader Requirements:
Any additional AR tests will be counted as extra credit. Additional tests can be used to replace a low AR test score as long as the requirements are met. The AR grade for the quarter will be based on the completion of the AR requirements. Failure to complete the minimum requirements will result in point deductions. |
