Little by little, the hallways and classrooms are beginning to lose their colorful luster. The bees, birdhouses, hot air balloons, frogs, and the matchstick men (from our last Picture Person project) have been carefully placed in Friday Folders for the trip home. In my mind's eye, I can already see these artistic creations adorning your refrigerator fronts.
Our last three days of school remain very full of things to do. On Tuesday, we will have a very musical morning. We will attend a band concert in the big building. After a ten-minute intermission, we will be entertained by The O.L.L. Idol sing off. Now, that sounds like an melodious way to start the day.
On Tuesday afternoon, the primary grades will have their 2012 Field Day. Our room mothers brought our purple shirts up to the classrooms before lunch this morning. Each of the shirts has been labeled with the child's name. Before I leave tonight, I will distribute them on the individual desks. The children can be out of uniform on Tuesday. Send them in comfortable shorts and tee-shirts. When they arrive, they can change into the purple ones.
From what I hear, our wonderful room mothers have some fun things planned for the event. We will be outside. If the weather fails to cooperate, they have made arrangements to use the big gym. So, we are scheduled, and our picnic is on no matter what. The children will need to pack a lunch. Just to be on the safe side, I might also include a drink.
Remember that Tuesday is a full day with the regular 2:30 p.m. dismissal time. However, both Wednesday and Thursday will be 1 p.m. dismissals.
We are still working on completing some of our academics. In fact, the math timed test will be on Wednesday as usual...did I detect a few groans? Don't forget that along with the summer packet (that is to be completed and returned to me in the fall), promises were made to continue serious math fact practice over the summer. We will most likely wrap up Wednesday with the famous "desk scrubbing".
On Thursday, we will assemble in church for an end of year all school liturgy at 8:30 a.m. Please know that you are welcome to join our celebration. Looking back on our school year, we have much to celebrate.
The count down to summer vacation is always filled with mixed emotions. On one hand, the children and their teacher often have to be reminded to concentrate on the task at hand and stop dreaming of lazy days in the sunshine. However, there is that sadness as another group is about to work its way down the hall to the third grade rooms. Some how, we all survive and hopefully can look back on our school year together with smiles and good thoughts.
Enjoy your three day weekend, and we'll enjoy the next three, our last three days together.
Sincerely,
K.B.and Kids
