"Magazine Mania" book project is due December 11. Ask relatives and friends for old magazines to cut out pictures for the poster.
Accelerated Reader Requirement: (due January 8)
- 3 AR books and passed tests (70%) per quarter
- 2nd quarter minimum-3 pts. or 5.0 reading level (will increase slightly each quarter)
- additional books/tests will count as extra credit
- see teacher for approval of any book that does not fit requirement before beginning reading
- non-AR books may be read after requirement is met for the quarter
Please encourage at least 15 minutes of reading each night as part of the homework routine. The only way to become a better reader is to READ .
Vocabulary study is a new component to the language arts program for 6th graders. Please refer to the sheet sent home which explains in detail the weekly routine. However, because it is new, we will be starting out slowly and gradually adding additional challenge as we proceed throughout the year. Students will not be required to write sentences for the first several weeks, allowing them time to develop good study routines to master the definitions, synonyms, and antonyms. Making flashcards as a study tool is strongly encouraged to prepare for weekly tests, and to review for the Cumulative Tests every three units.
For fun , finding vocabulary words that we've studied in library books or other printed materials such as newspapers or magazines earns points toward a reward in class.
