Dear Olentangy families,
The National Weather Service is predicting a significant snowfall in our area this week. Please keep in mind that, should this snowfall affect the school schedule, the district WILL NOT be using the automated calling system. The district feels that recent failures have proven this system to be unreliable. The district will continue to notify families of school delays and closures through the district website, listserves and Twitter. The district also notifies local television and radio stations.
If you would like to sign up for one of the district's listserves, please visit http://www.olentangy.k12.oh.us/olists.html.
If you would like to follow the district's updates on Twitter, please visit http://twitter.com/OlentangySD.

Jump Rope for Heart:
Dear Glen Oak Parents,
It takes heart to be a hero!
Im thrilled that our school is participating in a very special community service program: the American Heart Associations Jump Rope For Heart. ~Our Jump Rope for Heart event starts on Monday! ~Your child(ren) will be jumping rope during their Phys Ed classes next week. ~We will have all types of jump rope stations and other heart healthy activities.
If your family is participating in the fundraising for American Heart Association the packet is due Friday, February 18th. ~
By participating in Jump Rope For Heart, your child will join millions of other children across the country in a meaningful opportunity to learn and help others. They will learn how their hearts work and how to take care of them through physical activity and nutrition. ~And they will learn about children who have been affected by cardiovascular disease and how they can help them. In short, your child will have fun and feel good by helping others.
We are really excited about this years Jump Rope For Heart event and the experience it offers our students. We hope you will support your childs participation in this lifesaving, educational event. To learn more about the American Heart Association, Jump Rope For Heart, how children are affected by heart disease and how to keep your own family healthy, visit american heart.org/jump.
Why is Jump Rope For Heart Important?
1. Heart disease and stroke are America's No. 1 and No. 3 killers and touch all of our lives.
2. More than 9.2 million children and adolescents (ages 6-19) are considered overweight or obese, based on the 95th percentile or higher of body mass index ~~(BMI).
3. Overweight adolescents have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight adults.
4. Obesity increases a person's risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke and many other chronic illnesses, and it leads to higher health care costs.
5. Jump Rope for Heart raises funds for research and programs to reduce heart disease, stroke and their risk factors and improve health in people of all ages. ~
Lets help our children be heart heroes!
Todd Baker & Elissa Griffin
GOES Physical Education Teachers~
Special Notes:
*Your child will receive thank-you gifts based on the donations he or she collects (or you can elect not to receive them.)~
* Outside of the thank-you gifts we have multiple incentives for students at GOES (extra PE classes, IPOD Touch/Pogo Stick/Rocket Blaster Drawings, etc.)
*Our school will also earn free physical education equipment.
*For the safety of our children, we ask that your child not go door-to-door or ask strangers for donations.
All Olentangy schools are closed today due to winter weather and local road conditions.
All elementary and middle school activities for this evening will also be canceled. However, in accordance with the practice of the majority of Ohio Capital Conference schools, varsity and junior varsity level athletic activities may still take place, weather permitting.
Special Guest Speakers : Tom Fry, Olentangy Director of Data, Research and Accountability Jeff Brown, Olentangy Executive Director of Elementary Learning
Mr. Fry and Mr. Brown will provide parents with a summary of Olentangys Annual Academic Achievement, and provide specific goals and CIP benchmarks for Glen Oak students. This report is essentially Olentangy and Glen Oaks internal report card, and highlights the progress the students, teachers and administration have made in the past year.
All are welcome!
