Winter Sports Info

Here is a copy of the winter sports letter, which was distributed on 10/13 during Pride Time.

As our fall sport season winds down, I wanted to thank all of the parents and students for their continued efforts at helping our school sports programs succeed.  I’m proud to see so many students out for the school teams, and hope that the trend of playing for the school continues.

Please note that my website has all of the information about middle school athletics that you could want or need.   The website address is -http://teacherweb.com/OH/OrangeSchools/MrApple

The Orange City School District is proud to offer the following athletic programs during the winter athletic season-

Coed Swimming- begins Tuesday October 20th from 5:00-6:00 at the OHS pool.  Information and forms can be picked up from the Brady office starting Tuesday, October 13th

7th grade Boys Basketball- tryouts at the Brady gym on Tuesday, October 20th and Wednesday, October 21st from 5:00-7:00, and Friday, October 23rd from 2:45-4:45.  An informational meeting will be held at lunch on Wednesday, October 14th for all those interested in trying out.  The team will be cut to 12 participants.  Please note-all tryouts and practices are closed door-no spectators allowed.

8th grade Boys Basketball- tryouts at the Brady gym on Monday, October 26th and Tuesday, October 27th from 5:15-7:00 and Thursday, October 29th from 2:30-4:30.  An informational meeting will be held at lunch during the week of October 14th for all those interested in trying out.  The team will be cut to 12 participants.  Please note-all tryouts and practices are closed door-no spectators allowed.

7th and 8th grade Cheerleading- There will be mandatory clinics held in the Brady cafeteria on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27th from 2:30-4:30. Tryouts for both teams will be held on Friday, October 30th from 2:30 until completion.

7th and 8th grade Wrestling- will begin on Monday, November 2nd from 2:45-4:30 in the Brady cafeteria.  An informational meeting will take place during the week of October 19th.  Interested students should listen to announcements as that week approaches for all meeting information.

7th and 8th grade girl’s basketball teams will hold meetings in November or early December, and will hold tryouts before winter break.  Games begin in January, following the conclusion of the boy’s season.  Please listen to announcements or check my website for further information as December approaches, and we have a better handle on how things will go.

A note about behavior- Please note that being a member of an athletic team brings responsibility.  Each athlete of a team will be asked to represent themselves and their school positively at all times.  Behavior problems at school and at athletic contests and practice could result in exclusion from athletic teams and events.

A note about forms- In order for an athlete to tryout for and compete for a team, a valid physical must be on file with the athletic department.  Athletic physicals are good for one calendar year from the date of the physical.  All other required forms must be turned in by the time of the first tryout date as well.  Forms will be distributed at the respective meetings, and are also available from me at Brady.

A note about playing for non-school teams- If a student is on a team at Brady, that athlete may not participate on any other team of the same sport, during the same season, community or otherwise supported, until the Brady season is completely finished.  This includes practicing with any other team.  This is a rule from the OHSAA, which is our governing body.  So if you play for Brady, you cannot practice or play for or with any other team during the season.

Looking forward to a great winter season!

Andy Apple
