RHS High School Physical Education Curriculum
Physical Fitness
1. Demonstrate appropriate body mechanics and form to correctly execute a
variety of conditioning exercises for the following muscle groups: arm and
shoulder, abdomen, back, legs
2. Demonstrate appropriate body mechanics and form to correctly execute a
variety of exercises and activities to enhance the following aspects of
physical fitness: strength, speed, flexibility, agility, endurance
3.Correctly use terminology related to exercise and conditioning.
4. Demonstrate and apply appropriate safety precautions in the use of fitness
equipment and when engaging in fitness equipment and when engaging in fitness
activities.
5. Use physical fitness testing results to evaluate one's level of fitness.
6. Demonstrate the general ways in which an efficient fitness level can be
obtained and maintained.
Team and Individual Sports
7. Demonstrate the appropriate body mechanics, form, and skill required to
participate in a variety of team and individual sports, such as the following:
Tennis, Golf, Volleyball, Soccer, Softball, Archery, Badminton, Bowling, Table
Tennis, Weight training (Lacrosse, Frisbee Golf, and Ultimate Frisbee have
been unofficially added as of 2006)
8. Demonstrate the proper techniques for safely and effectively using sports
equipment.
9. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of rules, violations, scoring, and
penalties that regulate various sports.
10. Use correct terminology to describe the rules, scoring, penalties,
procedures, equipment, and execution of team and individual sports.
11. Demonstrate and apply offensive and defensive strategies for various
sports.
12. Demonstrate and apply sportsmanship while engaging in sports activities
and being a spectator.
13. Demonstrate and apply appropriate ways to communicate with and respond to
officials during a sporting event.
14. Demonstrate an appropriate type of workout to enhance skill and
performance in a sport.
15. Explain how participation in team or individual sports can enhance one's
health and well-being.
16. Explain the benefits of aerobic exercise and demonstrate the ability to
participate in a typical aerobic workout that is consistent with one's fitness
level.
17. Explain and apply appropriate first aid for injuries that are commonly
associated with participation in sports, including the following: cuts and
abrasions, strains and sprains

18. Identify and describe the duties, requirements, and opportunities
associated with a variety of careers related to team and individual sports,
such as the following:
Athletes
Coaches
Officials
Broadcasters, sports reporters, and promoters of sporting events
Equipment research, development, and sales
Stadium and Facility design and construction
