Grades

  • Fourth graders receive letter grades beginning this year.  The grading scale is always posted in each classroom.  The scale is as follows 100-93=A,  92-85=B,  84-77=C, 76-70=D, 69 and below=F.

All grades carry the same weight in every class except for Social Studies.  In Social Studies, homework is counted as a letter grade where as in Math it is counted as a completion grade.  Homework is rarely assigned in Science.  Vocabulary Workshop and the spelling pages do count toward your child's reading and spelling grade, and they weigh the same as classwork.  Here is how the Social Studies grades are weighed:

*Tests and classwork count for 50% of your child's  grade.

*Homework counts for 40% of you child's grade

*The final 10% is based on small assignments that are generally given to review or help your child bring up their grade

When looking at Option C...

...an "E" means your child is excused from the assignment (this could be because of an absence or your child was out of the room at the time the assignment was completed).

...an "L" means the assignment was turned in late or turned in incomplete and had to be finished at recess.

...an "M" means that your child never turned in the assignment (this results in the grade of a zero).

Finally, failing grades (69 or lower) are in red.  If we give the students extra credit for something, they show up in red because they are usually worth around 5 points.  Look at the heading to see if it says "Extra Credit."  If it does, those are the extra points added onto your child's final grade average.
