Music is such an important aspect of every child’s intellectual development. Our goal is to help supplement and expand their experiences. Interested 5th - 8th grade students proficient on an instrument are welcome to join the Band or Orchestra Program. Choir is open to members starting in 4th grade. We have qualified directors assisting children to achieve their best in these musical groups. All instrumentalist's are highly encouraged to be enrolled in instrument lessons from professional teachers in school or at one of the many stores. In-school band and orchestra instrument lessons are offered to 5th – 8th grade members first and will start after Labor Day. Any 4th - 8th beginner that would like to take lessons in school will be given that opportunity providing their intentions are to become a member when proficiency on their instrument is reached. Beginner lessons start mid-October. At this time, we are not teaching lessons on piano, guitar or drums. At this time, St. Albert the Great school kindly provides the space for in school lessons. All lessons taught during school hours are arranged through the individual professional teachers and lesson payments are paid directly to the individual teacher. These teachers are not part of the school staff. Therefore, correspondence regarding lessons is to be forwarded directly to the teacher giving lessons. Any other questions may be directed to Music Patrons through the school office. On occasion, Music Patrons will have instruments available to rent. The yearly rental fee through Music Patrons is $100.00. This gives parents an inexpensive way for their child to give a one year commitment on an instrument. Parents have a choice of having their child take lessons in school (when available) or through a music store even though the instrument is rented through Music Patrons. Please let us know if you’d like to explore this option. Rental is based on a first come first served basis. Music Patrons has only one ongoing fundraiser to provide these musical avenues which includes the school’s general Music Classes. “Market Day” is our main support system whereby we are able to purchase many different types of instruments, equipment and supplies for our childrens' benefit. Finally, are the member fees. The fee for Band and/or Orchestra members is $30.00 per family per year. Choir members are asked to pay $10.00 per family if they are not in Band or Orchestra. St. Albert the Great Music Patrons still provides all services at the lowest rate in the area. Market Day along with the yearly Music Patron fees, helps us provide: • uniform vests and patches • dinner for students during our combined concerts • continental breakfast for the choir • solo contest fees for our participants • instrument tuning and repairs • funds to purchase medals and trophies • year end concert/awards banquet • instruments • sheet music, videos, and DVD’s • annual gifts for directors • student incentives We are also excited to continue providing scholarships to deserving 8th graders which helps support their study of music in high school. It will take team effort to make our Music Program the best it can be. We encourage your participation.
