8th Grade Language Arts and Reading

Language Arts Update: 11-17-09

The eighth graders will be completing their unit on verbals and verbal 
phrases. 8A's test will be on Wednesday and 8B's test will be on Friday. When 
our verbals unit is completed, the students will be writing compare and 
contrast essays on a character from The Giver and a character from The 
Outsiders (I can't italicize titles on this website), 

Reading Update: 11-17-09
This week we will be talking about the Holocaust and The Diary of Anne Frank 
(I can't italicize on the website). The students will get their first dose in 
drama because we will be reading a play version of the diary. 


Aubrey Rose Scholarship Info:
go to www.aubreyrose.org and click on scholarship. There will be a form to 
print out and then fill out. There is also an essay for this scholarship. The 
info is on the scholarship form. 

We will have a Vocabulary Test every other week. During our vocab week, we 
the students will have to create sentences for the words. These sentences 
will be due on Tuesday and Wednesday. Synonyms and Antonyms will be due on 
Wednesday and Completing the Sentence will be due on Thursday. 

Our library day is Thursday. Each student can do a KBAR (Kick Back and Read) 
assignment and receive extra credit for an upcoming test. 


Just in case someone is absent, I'll do my best to upload any worksheets 
that I can to the website. Please note the worksheets will be Microsoft Word 
Documents. Other worksheets, coming from workbooks, cannot be 
uploaded.
