5th Grade Reading
The Lightning Thief Chapters 1-7 As we are reading our book, The Lightning Thief, we will be doing many activities in our journal. I will be posting all of the assignments on my teacher web page. For the first 7 chapters, we will be doing the following activities: Chapters 1-3-Diary entries Chapter 4- A graphic A graphic includes: •A picture in the middle which is a symbol for the chapter. It can be an important object mentioned in the chapter- like the Minotaur. •At least 3 colors used to color the object. Each color has to represent something, and you must write why you chose that color. •On each corner of the page, pick a quote from the chapter and copy it. After each quote, explain what it means and why you picked it. •Put the title of the chapter and your name at the top. Chapter 5- 5 sentence summary The first sentence is the topic sentence. The next three sentences are detail sentences, and the last sentence is the concluding sentence. Chapter 6- Fill out the 12 Olympian Gods + 2 sheet.
Chapter 7 Read chapter 7 and answer these questions in complete sentences. 1. Who are Annabeth’s parents? 2. What does it mean to be “undetermined”? 3. Why are some kids summer campers and others year-‘rounders? Which would you rather be? 4. What do the beads mean on Annabeth’s necklace? 5. Why is Annabeth frustrated when she and Percy talk about quests? 6. Why does Luke feel bitter? 7. Why does Percy ask for a blue coke at dinner? 8. What does Percy wish for as he puts his dinner into the fire?
