The Pow Wow is here! The Indian projects are very impressive once again.
We will display them for the whole school to enjoy next week. The class has
worked hard this week to get ready for the Pow Wow. We practiced our toe
heel dancing and playing our drums in rhythm. We practiced reciting our poem
in unison and with expression. We read a few more Indian stories, "The
Legend of the Bluebonnet", "Hawk, I Am Your Brother", and "Dancing With the
Indians". We wrote about the pro's and cons of being a Native American long
ago. We are looking forward to sharing all of our Indian knowledge with our
guests and families.
On Tuesday, we had the Everybody Counts Program. Thank you to the
volunteers who came in and taught the children about being deaf. We also had
a deaf guest speaker, who showed us many signs and talked about how he does
every day things as a deaf person.
In math this week, we finished Chapter 8 on addition with regrouping. The
class is doing very well with this concept. Our next chapter will cover
subtraction with regrouping. This is usually a little more difficult, but
I'm sure the children are up to the challenge! Math facts are going a little
better. We are up to the 15 facts.
In Religion we continued our preparations for First Reconciliation. The
class is doing a great job on the Act of Contrition. We read and discussed
the parable of the forgiving servant and discussed different ways we can
reconcile with each other. We talked about how good it feels when you make
up with someone.
Conference schedule papers are coming home Friday. If you forgot to
request a conference, I do still have some times available. Please let me
know if you need to come in. Don't forget it's early dismissal and pack a
lunch and drink on Tuesday.
Thank you so much to everyone who sent in a donation, or helped in any way
to make our Pow Wow a success this year!
There will no newsletter next week, so happy Thanksgiving! I am grateful
to have the wonderful job of teaching your children and working with such a
great school community of parents!
