The verdict is in! First Communion will be celebrated on the date that
was originally scheduled, Sunday, May 2, 2010! Father Hay will be here to
celebrate the mass, as his sabbatical has been put on hold at this time.
Thank you very much to the families who have already donated for our Adopt
a Family person. As you know, we are adopting a mom of 2 boys from the West
End for Christmas. We have 3 donations of candles, some pj's, 2 body sprays,
a cookie jar, 2shirts, dish cloths and towels, and a purse. We are still
in need of a toaster (preferably black),and bowls with lids. I
need all donations and money by next Friday, December 18th. Thanks!
Our Advent Prayer Service went very well yesterday. The readers did a
great job and our program distributors were very responsible.
In Language Arts this week we read more family stories. We wrote about
our families in a booklet we are making. We also wrote some great stories
about having a bad day like Alexander in the book, "Alexander and the
Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day".
In Math we are working on subtracting from 2 digit numbers with
borrowing. This is one of the hardest concepts we do in second grade. The
children are working very hard to master this skill. We are continuing our
practice of the facts and having timed tests every Tuesday and Thursday.
Reconciliation is Tuesday evening at 7pm in church. Just to review, the
children can sit anywhere in the church with their families. They should wear
nice church clothes. This will be a parish penance service, so any family
members and parishioners are welcome to attend. Fr. Hay will lead the
service. There will be several priests present to hear confessions. They
will be spread out and there will be background music playing to insure
privacy. We will form "communion like" lines for each priest. The children
will go up individually to the priest of their choice and confess 1 or 2
sins. They will receive a penance and absolution from the priest. Any family
member who has already received the sacrament, is also welcome to go to
confession. After your family is finished receiving the sacrament, you are
free to go home. There will not be a closing prayer or reception afterwards.
If you have any questions about Reconciliation, please let me know.
We will be having a Christmas get together with our Big Sibs on Tuesday,
December 22nd. I have candy that we can give our Big Sibs for Christmas
gifts. If your child insists on giving them a different gift, that's fine
but please do not exceed $2 for a small gift.
Don't forget we follow the Oak Hills School District for bad weather
delays and closings! It's that time of year already!

Mrs. Holscher
