                                              WEEK OF JANUARY 4, 2010
                                                  THEME – WEATHER

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope that all had a truly blessed
Christmas and a restful break. We will be back in the swing of things with
just two weeks to go before the end of the second quarter! It is amazing how
fast the time flies!

We are beginning a unit on Weather with the reading Cloudy with a Chance of
Meatballs by Judi Barrett as a fun beginning to the theme. Other books we
will be reading and using in language arts are Snow by Uri Shulevitz, Snowy
Day by Daniel Peddle, Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin, The
Cloud Book by Tomie DePaola and some weather poems.

Next week we will begin the “Star of the Week” program. Each child will have
a turn to be the “star” and share with the class. You will be notified
usually on a Friday for the following week. This program reinforces each
child as being special and unique. It helps build some self esteem. Please
spend a little time with your child when it’s his/her turn to fill out the
interview and find a few photos to share. Thank you

HOMEWORK: The children need to bring in the high and low daily temperatures
by getting it out of the daily newspaper or by listening to the TV or radio
everyday for the next two weeks. The temperatures should be that of the
previous day. For example, on Tuesday they will bring in Monday’s temps.
Monday-Writing the teens numbers as tens & ones PW45 &CW45; Tuesday –PW49;
Wednesday –Mr. Mouse & the Cowboy worksheet (ou & ow sounds); Thursday –The
Kissing Fish Short Course worksheet.

MATH –Please study math facts. Timed tests will begin Thursday. We will have
a practice test on tomorrow with no timing.

Please check with your child as to his supply of pencils and crayons. The new
year might be a good time to replenish those old supplies. Thank you!
Another reminder: On that school supply list from the beginning of the year
those with last names beginning with M-Z were asked to send in a box of
tissues in January. This would be that time!! We are desperate! Thank you!

Up ‘n coming:

Early dismissal – Monday, Jan 11
