STARS OF THE WEEK: Logan Davis

Logan is an excellent classmate and helpful to all!

First Grade's Touch Rules:
1.  High five
2.  Low five
3.  Shake hands
4.  Hold hands
5.  Hug
6.  Play tag appropriately

Please help promote appropriate behavior by reviewing our "touch rules" with 
your child.

SPELLING TEST: We have a spelling test this Thursday.

Religion:  We read about our Blessed Mother and then we wrote stories about 
her life.  We also made beautiful handprint Marys which are hanging in the 
connector hallway.

DROP EVERYTHING AND READ:  Student may continue to bring in books from home 
or from the library to read during silent or shared reading times.  We have 
read many wonderful books so far this quarter.

Sentence Rules:
1. Sentences begin with capital letter.
2. Sentences end with periods.
3. Sentences have space between words.
4. Sentences need to make sense.

Phonics:  We are working on -tch and -dge.

Science: We are learning about our 5 senses.

MATH: We continue to review addition, subtraction, time, and money.  We are 
currently reviewing skip counting.  Please practice counting by 2's, 5's, and 
10's.

Social Studies:  We have been reading biographies about famous Americans.  
This we read and learned about Benjamin Franklin.  First Graders then made 
Ben out of construction paper.  We tied in a lesson on sentence structure by 
adding sentences to our art work.

Your child should already know the following prayers:

1.  Our Father
2.  Hail Mary
3.  Sign of the Cross
4.  Morning Offering
5.  Evening Offering
6.  Act of Contrition

Ask your child to recite some of our new prayers.

This Week's Sight Words:  shout  ball  laughter  head  perhaps  should  
meadow  never

PARENT: IF YOU NOTICE THAT YOUR CHILD IS MAKING THEIR LETTERS FROM THE BOTTOM
AND THEN GOING UP, PLEASE STOP THEM AND HAVE THEM WRITE IT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.
