Dear Parents,
In the nine years that I have been here at St. Clement I have written 325
newsletters; this one will be my last and one of the more difficult ones. I
want to thank all of you for the support that you have given me since I first
arrived. I have come to know your families personally, and it is difficult
to say good by to people you have come to love. As a school community we
have worked together to continue the quality education that has always been a
St. Clement tradition. This would not have been possible without the
dedicated and professional staff members who work with your children each
day. It has been an honor and privilege for me to work with these wonderful
men and women. I feel that God truly blessed me when He gave me the
opportunity to share my life with all of you. I will keep all of you in my
heart as I move onto my next adventure at St. Joseph School in Crescent
Springs, Kentucky.
You are welcome to join us at 8:00 Mass tomorrow as we say good-by to some of
our staff members who will be leaving us in June. Mrs. Shannon Carey will be
retiring after being in Catholic education for the past twenty years, the
last twelve as a junior high teacher here at St. Clement. She has been
instrumental in working with the other junior high teachers to prepare our
students to move onto high school. Sister Patti will be leaving to complete
her degree in pastoral counseling. This past year Sister Patti served as a
special education aide and previously was our kindergarten teacher. Mr.
Larry Roy, our physical education teacher, has accepted a full time position
at the Blue Ash Country Club where he has been working part time. Miss
Melissa Horn, our fifth grade teacher, will be pursuing other opportunities.
In addition we wish Father Bruno and Brother Norbert farewell as they move
onto other assignments. I would like to extend our appreciation to all of
these individuals who have shared their talents with our school community.
In August you will be welcoming some new staff members to St. Clement. In a
previous newsletter I briefly introduced you to Miss Linda Westendorf who
will become the principal on July 1st. I know that you will enjoy working
with her and will give her your full support. Mrs. Sharon Khadaran will be
the eighth grade homeroom teacher and will teach social studies to the
students in grades 6-8. Mrs. Khadaran taught social studies to high school
students for two years in North Carolina and this past year taught in a
Cincinnati Public School. Mrs. Connie Schreiber will be the fifth grade
teacher, and she has taught for more than twenty years in Catholic elementary
schools. Miss Laura Russell has a BA in physical education with a minor in
health and will be teaching the physical education classes. Mrs. Carrie
Riley will be serving as a math tutor for some of the grade levels.
Our eighth graders will be graduating tomorrow evening. The program begins
in church with Mass at 7:00 p.m. followed by the graduation ceremony. Later
we will return to the cafeteria for refreshments and the eighth grade slide
show. I am very grateful to all the parents who have worked to make this a
wonderful event for our students and their families.
This will be the last year for the Joe Hellner Scholarship Award. The Joe
Hellner Foundation was established in 1983 by the Greater Cincinnati
Foundation. Since 1983 the Hellner Foundation has awarded $82,575 in
scholarships and donated $26,779 to assist St. Clement and Roger Bacon
athletics. After this year’s Joe Hellner Scholarships are awarded, the fund
will be depleted. The winners for this year are:
Boy Winner: Kevin Anneken - $1,500 to Catholic High School tuition
Boy Runner-Up: Joey Anello - $750 to Catholic High School tuition
Girl Winner: Molly Walterman - $1,500 to Catholic High School tuition
Girl Runner-Up: Katie Cox - $750 to Catholic High School tuition
At the Sports Award Banquet the winners of the Jim Nunlist Scholarship were
also announced. The winners, participants in the PSR program, are:
Nunlist Winner: Kellie Behrle - $250 to Catholic High School tuition
Nunlist Runner-Up: Jessica Schulte - $100 to Catholic High School tuition
Please remember that it is important that those of you who are scheduled to
work summer bingos fulfill your obligation. The school cannot operate
without the bingo funds.
All tuition and lunch accounts must be paid in full in order for you to
receive your child’s report card. No records will be sent to any other
school until financial obligations have been made.
All students in grades K-7 will be required to complete math and reading
assignments over the summer. Please check your child’s book bag for this
information.
I am excited that the project to replace the boiler and the windows in the
school will begin in June. The improvements will certainly produce a more
energy efficient building and will add to the beauty of the school. All work
should be completed in time for the opening day of school.
At this time the company that took our recycled ink cartridges is not longer
going to continue in this business. Please do not send any to school until
we notify you that we have another source.
I hope that all of you have a wonderful summer, and that you will take the
opportunity to spend time with your children. It has been a great honor for
me to serve as your principal, and I will always consider myself Franciscan.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cathy Stover
