Our language arts class has several different parts to it. We will use their English text for the formal study of grammar, usage, and mechanics, and their application and use in speaking, reading, and writing. Students are expected to keep an English notebook. On the right side, we will put the content information. The left side is for teacher/student examples that will support the material we are studying.

Writing is also an important part of our class work. Students will be introduced to various types of writing throughout the year. Writing is taught as a process of prewriting, revising, editing, and publishing. Students will be keeping a writing portfolio.

Vocabulary is the third aspect of our course of study. Each unit consists of twenty words and definitions and several exercises to help them master the words in each unit.

A variety of activities and learning strategies will be incorporated to enable all students to master the material taught. Homework will be assigned as needed to reinforce and/or extend the material we are studying.
