Weekly Newsletter

     Religion-
We are learning about the seven Sacraments, and how they bring us closer to God. Today, the students made cards for the Second Graders, to wish them luck for their First Communion on Sunday.* Ask your child if they can name all 7 Sacraments! Baptism, First Communion, Reconciliation, Confirmation,Matrimony, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick.

Language Arts- In Phonics, we are working on Long e, and “s” blends (swim, scrub, slip, snow, etc.)

We read about insects this week, and compared/contrasted them with spiders. The students also wrote silly animals sentences, as we practiced the “wh” question words- When, Where, Why, What.

Math- This week, we started geometry and symmetrical shapes. We used shape blocks to discover various ways to create a hexagon without using one.

Yesterday, the students put globs of paint on a paper, then folded it in half. When we opened our papers. . . voila! Symmetrical shapes! Today, we cut our designs into pictures that we saw (like “ink blot”pictures) and added details with a black pen to create spring pictures. They are hanging outside our classroom, and really brighten up the hallway.*This is a fun activity to try at home. I heard a lot of “wow!” and “woah-check this out!” as soon as they opened their papers and saw what design the paint made. It was a surprise each time, and it was so fun to see their reactions.

Social Studies/ Science/ Health- This month, we are wrapping up our plant
unit, and we will be learning all about animals!
