Volunteers

OBJECTIVE

St. Matthew School relies on the support of volunteers to facilitate 
many school activities, events, and projects.  This is an excellent 
opportunity for moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, and others to become 
acquainted with those who are working for the benefit of the school.


VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Cafeteria:
Three to four volunteers are needed each day to help 
cafeteria staff prepare and serve lunch, and help with clean up.  
Volunteers are scheduled to work once per month with a choice of two 
shifts 9-11 and 11-1.  Any time you can give is welcome and

Media Center (Library):
Classes are scheduled to go to the library once per week.  Volunteers 
are needed during the school day to shelve and check out books, 
assist the students as they come into the library, and/or help with 
book fairs.  Contact Rebecca Pollock, School Librarian at 614-471-

Room Parents:
Room parents are responsible for class parties and other activities 
involving a specific class at the request of the classroom teacher.  
Room parent signups are held in May for the following year with an 
orientation meeting held in September.  Contact Linda Strapp at 614-

Publishing Center:
Volunteers are needed to perform various duties such as assembling 
and binding booklets, laminating, and photocopying.  The Publishing 
Center operates once per week for up to two hours during the school 
day.  The day and time will be determined based on the Media Center 
Schedule.  Volunteers are asked to work approximately once per month.

Story Time:
Volunteers read to students in grades K-5 as a special treat during 
the school day at a time agreed upon with the classroom teacher.  The 
classroom teacher will offer suggestions for topics and books.

Innisbrook Catalog Sale:
Catalogs are distributed to each school family in September with 
delivery of orders in October.  Volunteers are needed to organize and 
assit with order "pick-up" on delivery day.  Contact Sue Mulligan at

Main Event Live and Silent Auction:
This auction is Home and School's major fundraiser.  Help is needed 
in a variety of ways including: planning, invitations, solicitation 
of auction items from school families and area businesses, 
coordination of classroom projects, writing thank you notes, 
decorations, set up, and help at the event.  Contact Kathleen Meyer

Hometown Christmas Bazaar:
This craft show is held each year on the second Saturday of November 
and is well known throughout the community.  Help is needed prior to 
the event with advertising, raffle, set-up, and coordination of the 
bake sale.  On the day of the event, volunteers are needed to work 
concessions, raffle ticket sales, bake sale, chinese auction, and at 
the door with admissions.  Home and School is looking for a co-chair

REQUIREMENTS

All volunteers of St. Matthew School and Parish who work with 
children must submit to a criminal background check for the safety of 
our children.  In addition to the background check, all adults who 
work with children in a paid or volunteer capacity must complete the 
class, 'Protecting God's Children'.  Registration is done online at 
www.virtusonline.org.  Click on "Registration" (in yellow, below the 
login button).  Our organization is Columbus, Ohio Diocese.  Follow 
the instructions to create a user ID and password, and complete the 
form as directed.  Select a class time and location.  Click "submit" 
when you are finished.  If you are successfully registered, you will 
receive an electronic confirmation.  For more information or
