Special Projects

Each year I try to do a special project or two with my class and other classes across the U.S.  This year, so far, I have signed us up for THREE:

1.  Pen Pals:  We are going to be pen pals with a group of second graders in a rural public school in South Carolina.  I do this project each year and the children love it.  They really look forward to receiving letters from their pen pals!  It is a fun way to learn letter writing, as well as learning about what life is like in a different community in a different state!

2.  Gingerbread Exchange:  This is my first time with this one.  Previously I did do an Easter Egg exchange, which went very well.  I will be sending more details in probably October regarding this project.  Basically each child will be creating a gingerbread man or woman to represent the state of Ohio.  We will be exchanging them with classrooms around the USA.  This will require home participation.

3. O.R.E.O.  Project:  We will be stacking oreo cookies and tallying how many we can stack before they topple.   Each student gets two tries.  We will then average the tallest stacks each person could make to get the class average.  The class average will be submitted to the O.R.E.O. project, along with classes all over the country.

I am excited about both of these projects and really feel the children will enjoy them, as well as benefit from them educationally.
