See What We Are Doing

This is what we are doing in September

Spelling:  The week of 9/8 our lesson is on long vowel words ending with silent 3.  There will be 16 words each week.

Phonics:  We are reviewing each short vowel sound and the rules for when the vowels are short ( cvc, cv)

Phonics Dance:  We do a program in my classroom called the Phonics Dance.  One or two new sounds are introduced each week.  Each of the sounds has a "chant" which we will recite daily.  For ex: /ai/  A said to i, hey get out of my way, I am saying A today.  So when you see ai, you say A!"   We have covered ai, eigh, ay and ch.

Reading:  This week we will be reading The Workers and Tools.  We will be working on long vowel words ending with silent e. We will also be learning the consonant digraphs /sh/, /ch/, /th/, and /wh/.  We will also talk about the author's purpose in writing the stories. Please practice reading with your child daily.  They can read to you, you can occasionally read to them, you can take turns...

English:  We will continue practicing finding the subjects of sentences but now we will also be looking for the predicate.  Every sentence must have both.  Subjects tell who or what is doing something, predicates tell the action or what is being done.

Math:  This week we are going to be subtracting.

Social Studies:  We are in Unit 1, looking at various types of communities.  We will learn rural, urban and suburbs.  We also will learn about voting and laws.
