Dear Parents,
Happy St. Nickolas Day! We will be going to a Prayer Service on Monday.
It's also the Second Sunday of Advent! The fifth grade planned the all
school Mass on Friday. We sang "Come, Lord, Jesus." We made Advent wreaths
to remember that there are four weeks to get ready for Christmas, the
birthday of Jesus. We also made Jessie trees to remember some of the great
prophets in the life of Christ. There is a paper that explains each symbol
on the Jessie tree with suggested readings from the Bible. I can't believe
that there's only 10 more days of school before Christmas. 3A is going to
confession on December 16th. This is a great way to prepare our hearts for
Jesus on Christmas.
This week we will be going over Chapter 3 in Math. Some of the children
made mistakes on the test because they do not know the basic subtraction
facts. I will give another math test with 100 subtraction problems on it.
The goal is to finish it in 5 minutes. Some of the children are still
counting on their fingers. So, if your child does not know the basic facts,
he/she should study them for five minutes every night until they master them
with speed. They also need to know how to regroup in subtraction.
The Spelling Test is on Friday. We are studying the Apostles' Creed. Each
week, one phrase of the Apostles' Creed will be included in the Spelling Test.
The children are also suppose to read an AR library book for 15 minutes every
night.
Please order some books for your child for Christmas. If you spend $10,
you get $5 immediately on line for a free book. The order is due by
Wednesday, December 9th. Hopefully, they will be here for Christmas. Also,
your child could write a one-page book report inspired by the best book they
read this year, focusing on what they found remarkable about the book. Each
entry must include your child's name, age, and grade; teacher's name;(Mary
Lou Garner) and school name,(St. Teresa of Avila) address (1194 Rulison
Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45238) and phone number (513-471-4530). Send them
to "My Best Book of the Year" Book Report Contest, P.O. Box 714, New York,
NY, 10013-0714. All entries must be received by January 4,2010. Ten Winners
will receive two 25 book "Best Books of 2009" Libraries-one for the classroom
and one for home. Good Luck!
Love & Prayers,
Mrs. Garner
