A Few Dates To Remember!
Wednesday, November 25th Our "mini" Thanksgiving Feast. Information was sent home last week. There will not be a need for extra parent volunteers that day.
Thursday 11-26 and Friday 11-27 No School! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Units Of Study
In language arts last week, we became familiar with the letter and letter sound of 'Nn'. We focused on the month of November, our names, numbers, the job of nurses and Native Americans. We practiced sharing sentences orally using our Red Words correctly and also practiced writing these words as well. We listened to many stories and recalled the story elements of character and setting. We also did many retelling activities. We recalled position words (up, down, to the side of, under, over, etc.) as well as rhyming and created books for our Book Boxes. This week we will be focusing on the letter combination of 'th' as in Thanksgiving and being thankful. We will spend our three day week focusing on several Thanksgiving themes geared around the Pilgrims and Native Americans, our families, eating yummy food and turkeys!
In math last week, we continued to focus on collecting data using surveys and learned how to share our data using words such as more, less, most, least and equal. The children also practiced using tallies to collect the number of students who answered their various survey questions. This week we will be working with and recalling the concept of patterns. We will practice making, interrupting and extending patterns using various items such as beads, cubes and blocks just to name a few. We will also be reviewing the concept of counting with one to one correspondence. In science, we finished our focus on the various food groups we must eat from in order to help our bodies grow and change in a healthy and strong way. We will complete our unit with our 'Thanksgiving Mini Feast' this coming week. We also had a visit from Mrs. Cook a RN from Akron City Hospital (And my best friend since 5th grade!). She shared with us ways to keep ourselves healthy and happy. We had a great time learning from her and now know the proper way to wash our hands while singing the ABC's. Ask your son or daughter about the fun we had! As you can see we had and are planning to have a terrific week together as the month of November comes to an end...WOW! During this time of year I am so thankful to have been given the gift and love of teaching. I am blessed to have the opportunity to be your child's teacher and I know that each one of them is a special person given to me to love, teach and care for here at school. I enjoy seeing their eyes light up when they discover new and exciting things. Thank you for trusting me to facilitate your child's learning. I love them very much and appreciate each one's uniqueness. May you and your family create lasting memories together this Thanksgiving! Fondly,
