Our Week at a Glance
March 19th-23rd
We had a great St. Patrick’s Day today! Thank you for your hard work with all of the leprechaun traps. They are set for this weekend and we will find out what happens on Monday. Also, thank you for your donations for our potato bar. We enjoyed all the festivities.
Updates
* I am in need of a few things for the classroom. If you are willing to donate, just send them in whenever.
1. Napkins for snack items that are sent in.
2. Double AA batteries for our CD players. I have purchase two large packs at COSTCO’s but we are out now.
3. One of our portable CD players was dropped twice and now does not work. If you have a used portable player that you don’t need, we are now one short.
Working with Words
Our word wall words this week are: after, am, play, ride, & where
Our bonus word this week is *energy
Guided Reading
Next week we will be reading different versions of The Three Little Pigs. We will work on text vs. text comparison. We will also read “Mind Your Manners, B.B. Wolf” and discuss rules vs. laws. Near the end of the week we will learn all about pigs as we read Gail Gibbon’s story, “Pigs”. We will fill in a have, can, and are chart for pigs.
Also, we will begin a reader’s theater script on pigs. All children will be working in groups and will practice their parts throughout the week. We will perform them for a kindergarten class when we have fully mastered our stories.
Writing
We will write about the 4thlittle pig. We will say whether it is a boy or girl, what he or she looks like, and what sort of house he /she would build. On Tuesday we will edit these stories. On Wednesday we will write an editorial from the wolf’s point of view. On Thursday we will write in our journals. On Friday we will be creating a non-fictional writing on pigs telling the facts we learned from our story.
Math
On Monday we will be focusing on pyramids, cones, and cubes. Thank you to those children who have brought in items for our shapes museum. On Tuesday we will be discussing symmetry. On Wednesday we will have our Unit 7 assessment. We will begin Unit 8 on Thursday.
Energy
We will begin discussing different forms of energy. We will discuss the wind, batteries, electricity, sun, and food. We will focus on each piece individually throughout the week. We will also discuss ways to conserve energy in our homes.
