Small Communities

Grammar Group
This is a group of students who meet once a week on Tuesday afternoons to practice foundations of writing and grammar.  Each week they may focus on capitalization, punctuation, spelling, grammar rules, parts of speech etc.  These skills may be reinforced through a worksheet, game, or madlibs.  It is graciously led by parent volunteer, Mr. Rice.  I typically select students that I would like to participate in this, however, if you would like your child to be a part of this please let me know.

Super Spellers
Students that have been selected for this group meet on Thursday afternoons during A+ time for about 15 minutes.  They have the opportunity to practice basic spelling rules and words.  This community focuses on building up the foundations of spelling and phonics that have been laid at early grade levels.  A parent volunteer will take them through a Making Words Activity where students will use letter tiles to follow spelling commands.  In the end they must use a specific number of letters to reveal a Mystery Word.  It is a great opportunity for those students who struggle with spelling in their daily writing.

Brain Busters
A group of students who like to be challenged.  Each week they will be given a task that will challenge their brain and make them think "outside of the bowl".  The purpose of this group is to exercise the brains of my higher level thinkers.

Book Worms
Small group of students who meet once a week to read a short passage together and go over comprehension questions from the story.  This small group setting enhances the essential comprehension skills that make us successful readers.
