Am I expected to sign my child's assignment book?
I feel strongly that my role as an educator in 5th grade is to help prepare your child for the next step in their education which is junior high. Therefore, I will require a signature on assignment books only for the first quarter. For the remainder ofthe year it is not a requirement. I will, however, most often sign student's books when they receive a strike. There are also special circumstances that may require more communication betweenschool and home and an agreement may be made to have the assignment book signed by both parties. :) Back to Top
How is homework graded?
Students receive an effort grade as a part of their final quarter grade for each subject. Their effort grade goes down each time an assignment is late or has to be returned and redone because it was not done right the first time. Hard work goes a long way in my classroom. With exception to longer assignments and projects very rarely is homework taken as a grade. However, it is always discussed, corrected, and returned. I view homework as the practice for the big game. The big game is the test or quiz. If students have paid attention and put forth effort in class the quizzes and tests should show this.Back to Top
What is the best way to reach you?
E-mail is probably the quickest way to reach me. I check it routinely throughout the day. A phone call also works, however, I cannot talk on the phone when the students are in the classroom so you may not receive as quick as a response. The old fashioned pen and paper works just as well too. If you write a message in the assignment book try to remind your child to show it to me. We are partners in your child's education, so I welcome and encourage communication with you. I do my best to get back with you as soon as possible. I love getting to know the loved ones and families of my students, I feel that it is important.Back to Top
