Cooperation Makes it Happen!

Ø Discipline:  I believe in using a combination of the Jones’s, “Positive Discipline Model” and Canter’s “Assertive Discipline” in my classroom.  Our class will brainstorm classroom rules the first day of school.  I will continually give positive recognition to appropriate behaviors with smiles, pats on the back, verbal praise, stamps on individual charts (10= a small prize), and group rewards (100 straws = group voting on a reward).  It is my belief that it is my responsibility to create a safe, comfortable, interesting, creative learning environment for my students taking into account that some students are visual learners, some are auditory learners, and others are kinesthetic learners to maintain classroom control.

If a child makes a mistake and breaks a classroom rule (& no one is perfect) I will give a warning verbally, or nonverbally.  If the inappropriate action continues we have a time out at recess to discuss what rule was broken and what would have been a better choice.  If your child needs to meet with me during recess 3 times in a quarter, your child will write a letter to you informing you of the rules he/she broke and what they will do next time to make better choices.

Ø  Our class motto is: “Be good to each other!”
