What Parents Need to know about Cross Country
McCord CC Parents Are the Best!  Parents are our #1 supporters!!

  1. Pick up your student/athlete from practice on time. We appreciate your promptness. There will be times that the coaches will be unable to stay with a student/athlete if the parent is late in picking up.  The pick up time is one and one half hours, sometimes less but never more, from the practice start time on your schedule.
  2. Uniforms:  Our School provides each runner with a jersey tank top & running shorts.  Sweatpants and sweatshirts will not be handed out this year.  Athletes are NOT ALLOWED to wear any part of the uniform to school during the day.  If we have cool weather (it is rare) it is permitted to wear a solid color (no print on it) black t-shirt under the red jersey while competing.  NO UNDER ARMOUR is allowed as it often has two under armour logos on it which is an illegal garment in the state of Ohio.  Jr. High CC is governed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association Rules under the National High School Federation of Track and Cross Country Rules.
  3. Encourage your child to drink water during the day, before and after practice. August will be hot. Hydration is very important to having a successful running experience. Always make sure your child brings water to every practice. We will give reminders for a couple of weeks and after that a runner without water will not be allowed to run in a practice.
  4. Make sure your child gets good nutrition and rest!! Running, the start of a new school year, mental and physical growth, all takes its toll on the student/athlete. Consistent eating & sleeping habits will provide your child with the health for success in all that they do.
  5. Talk with your child about CC. Ask your runner for information about upcoming meets/events. Please check the website for all information.  This information is given to runners at Monday practices. If the runner misses practice THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE
for asking the coaches for the information they may have missed.  We have begun to use a file system for the handouts.  Each child has a file folder in a milk crate.  Their personal log sheets are kept there as well as handouts that they need to collect and take home.
They should check these files each day when they fill out their log sheets.  .
  6. Encourage your student/athlete to pack their bag for CC practice or meets the night before.
  7. Encourage your student/athlete to be responsible for telling the coaches when they will miss practice.  A phone call
(Coach Masters 419.297.7092) from parents is nice, but teaching your child to communicate with their coaches is important to the coach/ athlete relationship.
  8. --Read The  Guidelines for McCord Cross Country Web Page and make sure you and your student understand these guidelines.  Being part of an interscholastic team takes maturity; athletically, emotionally, socially and mentally.
  9. Parent Volunteers are needed!! Please see Coach Masters or Coach Osborne for sign up sheet.
  10. Where is your Student/athlete?Help us keep track of all of the runners at a meet: Bustransportation is provided by Sylvania City Schools to and from each meet, but if you will be transporting your child in your car, home from a meet, please sign your child out with a coach. The parent MUST sign a release sheet to have the child released to them at the meet. This is to assure that the parent HAS the child in their custody when they leave. It let's us document that we have seen the parent, and the child has left with the parent.
