Cleisthenes- born 570 BCE- Establishes Democracy for Athens

510 leader of Athens creates first DEMOCRACY

 REALIZED, TO HAVE PEACE, had to break up tribal loyalty, and create loyalty to Athens

     1.     All males 20 over citizens

    2.    Citizens must serve state

    3.    All male children must be educated and given profession

    4.    Males given vote

     5.    Council of 400 takes care of Athens business every 10 days

     6.    508 Spartans force him to flee with 700 families of his clan

    7.    Isagorus tried to disband Council of 400

    8. Ordinary Athenians recall Cleisthenes and ask him to help build Demos (government by the people)

      9. Gave ordinary Athenian great power and pride
