CLASSROOM/HOMEWORK RULES

CLASSROOM RULES AND HOMEWORK PROCEDURESsun.jpg

Here are the simple class rules for student and classroom success.

  1. . Come to class prepared... paper pencil, pen (black or dark blue), homework finished neatly and directions followed, textbook, composition book and agenda book.
  2.  Homework done neatly and turned in on time. Late homework (except for excused absences) receives a zero. I will NOT accept late homework.
  3. Follow school rules (including no gum chewing, copying someone else's homework (AKA CHEATING and receives a zero credit, etc. ).
  4. Talk when given permission.
  5.  Keep hands, feet, and objects to oneself.
  6.  MOST IMPORTANT: RESPECT SELF AND OTHERS. NO DISRESPECT, ARGUING, OR INAPPROPRIATE BODY LANGUAGE WILL EVER BE TOLERATED.
  7.  Expectations are spelled out clearly for the classroom and for each lesson. Consequences are creative and are appropriate for the occasion. Remember, I mean what I say and say what I mean. I want you to be your best. I expect nothing less.
  8.  STUDENTS GET WHAT THEY EARN, NOT WHAT THEY DESERVE. Every activity gets a point value including homework. Every grade is earned, not given by the teacher, and my personal feelings never enter into any grades. I NEVER round a grade up for this reason, and RARELY give extra credit. I NEVER GIVE EXTRA CREDIT IN PLACE OF THE ASSIGNED WORK.

As a teacher, I try to create an atmosphere in the classroom as fair as humanly possible. The student however is the prime player here
with a job to do. The job of the student is to learn and that is the main goal of this classroom. Anything less is unacceptable.

HOMEWORK POLICY FOR THIS YEAR-
Things you should know first.

  • Most assignments are found on the Assignment page link are hyper-linked. All homework (99%) is online, on my main website page http://menzinator.com (7th grade) and http://teacherweb.com/OH/SylvaniaCitySchools/MenzieAmericanHistory/apt1.aspx (8th grade)
  • · Supplementary reading is found in the Reading link on the left of the homepage and worksheets are always in the Workbook link.
  • · The textbook can also be found online. It is linked online and you can find the link in the LEFT SIDEBAR on the main page. The user name is cmenzie2 and the password is menzinator for the seventh grade You need the latest version (free) Adobe Reader (http://www.adobe.com) to open this on your computer. If you are on an Apple computer, you do not need this download; it will open in the preview screen.

HOMEWORK POLICY

1. All homework is to be done and turned in on time. I do not accept late homework unless involved with excused absences. If you are sick, get ONLINE and find out what you have missed. You must turn this in within two days of return.

2. NEAT!!! Your work shows you have pride and "neat" will generally get a better grade. If I cannot read it, or it is done in inappropriate color ink, etc, I will not grade it. I do not give you credit for "trying" and saying you do not understand. EVERYTHING is spelled out.

3; Follow directions. Read the directions. If you have questions or need something made clear, ASK Mrs. Menzie.
4. IF YOU HAVE A READING ASSIGNMENT, READ IT. DO NOT GO LOOKING FOR ANSWERS ONLY.
5. Black or dark blue ink (not turquoise), regular pencil, or computer will be accepted. No colored ink or pencil can be used unless given permission

6. IF YOU COPY YOUR HOMEWORK OR ANY OTHER WORK FROM SOMEONE ELSE, AND YOU HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN PERMISSION BY ME TO WORK TOGETHER, YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO AS WELL AS POSSIBLY OTHER CONSEQUENCES. DO NOT BE LAZY.

7. STUDY. You will have to in this class. There are things that must be memorized, certain things that you will be expected to do on your own, and YOU GET WHAT YOU EARN, NOT WHAT YOU DESERVE. I as your teacher do not give you an A or fail you. You do this yourself.

8. I rarely, but sometimes give a study guide. Many students NEED to do a good job learning their lessons or doing their homework. Student/parent wants to know exactly what is on the test. I will tell students all semester in class and on this website what is on tests. The catch is students must do his or her job as a student and tests will not be difficult.

9. Talk to me if you have any problems or questions. I try to be as fair as possible and I do not know unless you tell me what is on your mind....

10. I base your grade (quarter, semester, and final) on your performance ONLY.

SOME TECHNOLOGY INFO THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW…..

1. I will be using TEACHER WEB as my main web site all year. MyBigCampus will be used by many of the teachers. Until I am fully trained, I am going to stick with what we have.

2. I WILL SEND OUT TEXT MESSAGES ON “REMIND 101”. YOU WILL GET INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS SOON.

3. We will use Google Docs but not for a while. You will receive a letter on this when it is enabled.

4. Please check Power School at least weekly. I keep it updated. A zero means I never received the assignment, and if it is not filled in, then I have not graded it yet.

5. Concerns? Call school ext. 4117, or email me only. I will get back to you.
