A month in to school already! Students are adjusting very well. I have been very pleased with overall progress. Confereces slips will be going home the week of October 19th. Please sign and return as soon as possible. I will assign times on first come first serve basis! During the fall conference we will be completing the WEP (written education plan) which is a student centered goal of his/her choosing. We will talk as a class in the weeks to come about how to set a goal. All students will receive information to bring home prior to their conference so you, as a family can help make some decisions about the goal before coming to see me. So, during conference time we discuss this futher and get it on to paper! Grades - I have had some questions about my marks on their papers! I will put a checkmark, star, or sometimes a T on any papers done in class with me. That just tells you that I've seen it. Only papers that come home with a score and or grade are the ones that will appear on the report. Very rarely will I grade classwork/homework. That is meant for practice. However, I will/do send projects that have been started in class to be finished and brought back for a grade. All students have succussfully signed on to Renzulli Learning. If you have not received a letter with your child's username and password, you should have! Contact me and I will get another one to you. That site can be accessed from anywhere with internet access. Parents can also get on to the site to see what the children are doing. At this point, they all have a project that should be completed through this system. Another nice feature is the e mail. Students can e mail me through the secure site about any questions. Just a reminder students will attend class twice each week. When they return to their homeroom classes, they will have assignments from me to be completed during the time their classmates are working on the subject they are identified in. For example, Jim comes to me for Gifted Intervention for math. So, while his classmates are working on their math, he will work on what was sent from me in the GIS class. That work will be due upon return to me the following day. So, if Jim doesn't complete the work in his classroom, it will then become his homework. I look forward to seeing you at conferences.
