About The Teacher
URBAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL strives in cooperation with families to guide the growth and development of each child: academically, emotionally, morally, physically, and spiritually. URBAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL strives to recognize and build upon the strengths of the child, leading to the attainment of a healthy self-concept and those skills and competencies necessary for each child to lead a well adjusted life in relation to his/her family, peers, community, world, church, God. This quality education shall be implemented through an educational program which places emphasis on continuous progress through an adaptation of non-gradedness. URBAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL will be Catholic/ Christian-oriented, being sensitive to and fostering the religious traditions and spiritual lives of the students. We value students of diverse cultural, racial, religious, and economic backgrounds. The educational program will encourage each child to progress at the individual’s own pace and will strive to assist each child to achieve his/her highest potential. Special emphasis is placed on a nonviolent approach to problem solving, mediation, cooperative learning, and respect for the rights of each person. Therefore, children will be better able to face problem-solving situations, respond to the issues in their community, and eventually to effect improvements in society as a whole. UCS MISSION STATEMENT URBAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL is in existence to provide an individualized, Catholic/Christian quality education to children of the near West Side of Cleveland, primarily to those who might not otherwise have access to such an education.
